Least Favourite Track: Anything from Side-Bĭespite some of the classic tunes featured on this album, oddly enough the Beatles second LP contained no singles that were released in the UK. It’s a perfectly serviceable film score, but it’s not something I revisit regularly. There’s nothing inherently wrong with George Martin’s instrumental second side of the record. Without doubt it’s the highlight of the whole album. The McCartney led All Together Now is essentially just a novelty kids song and for me the only song of note on the LP is the fantastic Hey Bulldog. The two George Harrison numbers Only a Northern Song and It’s All Too Much are far from his finest work. Taking the films title track from the Revolver record and using the All You Need is Love single to close out Side-A, the other 4 Beatles songs in my opinion somewhat vary in quality. Not really a true Beatles album, containing only 6 songs featuring the band. I’ve selected my favourite and least favourite song from each record:Īs stated earlier. Also, just to prove I’m fairly objective when it comes to the Beatles, and not a manic completist that accepts every note they’ve ever played as godly. I will however, in the interest of fairness include Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour. This then leaves 11 true originally released UK albums from the band. Side A being the new songs from the British EP and Side B being comprised of 5 (already released) singles and B-sides. It was only in the US initially that the LP version was released.

Similarly Magical Mystery Tour was originally released as a 6 track EP. Yellow Submarine for example only contained 4 new original Beatles numbers, with the entirety of Side B being composed by George Martin. NB: It’s slightly vague and ambiguous as to what was an officially released Beatles studio album. So, without further ado – let’s get into it: Or a non-winning Formula One car as “the slowest”. It would be like categorising a runner up Miss World contestant as the “least attractive”. To name any Beatles LP as their “worst” album is sincerely harsh. Where do you even start with a list like this? I’ve had no other choice than to start with my current favourite record and work backwards. It’s also extremely interchangeable and to be honest, all of my top 5 have been number 1 at some point. So please do bear in mind that this list is subjective and my own personal opinion. The correct answer to that question is that there is no correct answer. So what is in fact the greatest Beatles album of all time?
